If there is anything that we wish to change in the child, we should first examine it and see whether it is not something that could better be changed in ourselves. ~C.G. Jung, Integration of the Personality, 1939

MUMBAI: A sessions court on Wednesday rejected an application filed by the former husband of yesteryear actor Vidya Sinha.

The application was filed by 71-year-old Netaji Salunkhe , a doctor based in Australia , following an order by a lower court that he pay Rs 10,000 to the 64-year-old actor as maintenance.

Salunkhe, a widower , and the actor began chatting online in 2001. The two met when Salunkhe came to India. After courtship, they decided to tie the knot and started living in Andheri.

However, their relation soured over the years. In 2009, the actress filed a complaint against Salunkhe, saying he used to torture her physically and mentally. She also claimed that Salunkhe demanded money from her.

The couple, who had adopted a daughter, later divorced . But Salunkhe refused to pay for the upbringing of the child, which prompted Sinha to file an application in the lower court.

The court ruled in Sinha's favour and ordered Salunkhe to pay her Rs 10,000 per month.

Salunkhe filed an appeal against the order. He submitted that Sinha was a television actor and was well paid to bring up the child.

He also said that she had a flat in a Mhada colony in Andheri. The sessions court, however, rejected Salunkhe's appeal.

Popular in the 1970s, Sinha starred in several hits, including Rajnigandha, Pati, Patni Aur Woh and Chhoti Si Baat.

The actor returned years later to the small screen and acted in soaps such as Kavyanjali , Bahu Rani, Zaara and Bhabhi.

Sinha was married to Venkateshwaran Iyer, who died in 1996. Sinha and Iyer have a daughter.
