A Canadian national of Indian origin committed suicide in the city after he was unable to bear separation from his children, born from his first marriage. software engineer by profession, Syed Makhdoom (39) committed suicide on Sunday at his residence in Benson Town. But his death came to light only on Thursday.

Police said the deceased was married to a city-based woman named Muskan Fero and had fathered two children from her. However, five years ago he obtained a divorce from Muskan, who is alleged to have been married thrice before.

In 2005, Syed shifted base to Bangalore from Canada and obtained a valid residence permit in India. He then started working as a techie in a private firm here. Soon after, Syed remarried a woman hailing from Ahmedabad.

On Sunday last, his wife left for Ahmedabad for her delivery. Syed is believed to have dropped her at the airport and returned home. That was when he resorted to the extreme step.

Police said they found four suicide notes in the house. In one note, Syed said he did not hold anyone responsible for his death. However, he also mentioned in his suicide notes that for the last one-and-a-half years, he was not allowed to meet his children from his first marriage by his estranged wife. He stated this as the reason for ending his life.

However, the police are awaiting the arrival of his family from Delhi to cross-verify details. h_srikanth@dnaindia.net & ramanujam_k@dnaindia.net
